Skiathos offers a variety venues to enrich the visitors’ experience. There are several active monasteries which welcome visitors. The largest one is Evangelistria monastery which also maintains a well appointed folk museum that contains artifacts from modern history of Greece.
The Kastro is a Byzantine era fortification where the population live at various periods through the long history of this region. It is worth a visit, particularly during early morning or late afternoon. There is a friendly taverna at the beach below which can be reached by foot. Both are worth a visit.
There an 25 well marked hiking trails that range from easy to moderate difficulty everywhere on the island. These trail offer scenic hiking amidst diverse environments that include pine forest, olive groves, rocky shores with sea views, as well as dense shrub and tress with small creeks.
